Cologne/Eschweiler (October 2, 2026) – With the on-schedule completion of Barnet Europe‘s new European headquarters, the pioneering built-to-suit project in Eschweiler has been successfully concluded – around eleven months after the groundbreaking ceremony. The project was realized in close cooperation with Barnet Europe as user, Goldbeck as general contractor, BGO as investor and owner, PRODAC as project developer, and Modevconsult in technical project management.
A state-of-the-art site with a total of around 23,000 sqm of production, warehouse and office space has been developed on the approximately 41,400 sqm site. The new asset comprises two industrial buildings as well as a front-facing, two-storey office extension and will in future bring together Barnet Europe’s activities, which had previously been spread across several locations, under one roof. In this way, the internationally active production, recycling and trading company is creating the basis for further growth and more efficient collaboration between its business divisions.
The property was tailored precisely to the requirements of Barnet Europe. Around 19,400 sqm of logistics space, approximately 1,800 sqm of office and social areas, as well as an additional warehouse mezzanine area of around 1,700 sqm were realized. A clear internal height of 10 m and a total of 73 car parking spaces complement the scheme.
Bernd Lenzen, Managing Director of Barnet Europe, said: “The decision to relocate our site to Eschweiler is a strategic step to further expand the economic strength of Barnet Europe. We are proud to be a company with global reach and are pleased to make a valuable contribution to the economic development of the region through this new establishment. This move affects both our site in Aachen and our affiliate’s site in Raeren. We are merging both sites in order to be even more effective and to bundle our competencies in one place. Eschweiler offers us ideal conditions for further growth and capacity for innovation.”
Jürgen Diehl, BGO, said: “We are pleased about the successful completion of the project and wish Barnet Europe every success with their new home. The new European headquarters combines functional production areas with a clearly structured, architecturally appealing administrative area. Projects such as this underline our aspiration to develop modern real estate at established locations together with strong partners.”
Lars Zimmermann, Managing Director of PRODAC, added: “The project’s on-schedule completion demonstrates what can be achieved through close partnership and a clear focus on shared goals. Special thanks go to the City of Eschweiler, Barnet Europe‘s team, Goldbeck and our technical partner Modevconsult.”
Patrick Nowicki, Mayor of the City of Eschweiler, said: “With the successful completion and handover of the new production and warehouse complex for Barnet Europe on Graf-Zeppelin-Straße, a significant milestone has been reached for Eschweiler as a business location. The project is exemplary of modern, sustainable industrial development and shows how attractive our city is for international companies. This new establishment strengthens the ongoing structural change in the Rhenish mining area, creates jobs and provides important impetus for the economic future of our region. My special thanks go to all project participants for their professional collaboration based on trust.”
Particular attention was paid to a sustainable and future-proof construction method. The production and warehouse complex was built in accordance with the demanding criteria of the DGNB Platinum standard of the German Sustainable Building Council. Among other things, photovoltaic systems, modern heat pump technology and intelligent building technology for resource-saving energy supply are used. The sustainability concept is supplemented by measures to promote biodiversity as well as EV charging infrastructure for cars and bicycles.
The design of the office areas also follows a modern and employee-oriented approach. An open working environment with a continuous open-space structure, generous glass partition walls, integrated sound insulation elements and a contemporary colour concept was created. In this way, bright and communicative working areas were created that promote cross-departmental collaboration while at the same time offering a high-quality working environment.
