UrbanToronto: Hullmark and BGO's Beltline Yards Updated Plan Boosts Residential Space in Eglinton West
Hullmark, in collaboration with BGO, has revised its plans for Beltline Yards, a mixed-use development located in Toronto's Eglinton West area near the future Caledonia transit hub. The updated proposal boosts residential space by 19.5%, increasing planned units from 1,946 to 2,390, with nine buildings across five blocks, including a 55-story tower. This design prioritizes a cohesive mix of high-rise and mid-rise buildings, residential and light industrial spaces, as well as community and green spaces. These plans align with the project's goal of fostering a lively, transit-connected neighborhood that maintains the site’s historical and industrial essence.
Beltline Yards emphasizes community engagement and sustainability, incorporating nearly 50% open public spaces, including the York Beltline Trail and new public parks. Design elements like adaptable yards, terraces, and a geothermal energy system promote eco-friendliness, while employment spaces, retail outlets, and residential units create a "live-work-play" environment. Hullmark and BGO collaborated with local artists to commemorate the site's industrial past, aiming to develop a distinctive neighborhood that supports both housing needs and cultural activities.
