BBC: Science District plan for city suburb wins approval
Cambridge City Council has approved the development of a 23-acre "Science District" in Cherry Hinton, spearheaded by Mission Street. This project will provide 1 million sq ft of modern building space, with public access to the previously private lakes at Burnside. In addition to these new facilities, the development will deliver significant ecological improvements, including the creation of an "urban country park" and enhancements to local pathways, promoting sustainable transport and outdoor activities.
The project will also feature community-focused initiatives such as educational outreach programs in partnership with the Cambridge Science Centre. The unanimous approval by the council underscores its significance in supporting the UK's ambitions to be a leader in scientific innovation.
