Over a Decade of Responsible Investing: BentallGreenOak earns 2021 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award for the 11th year in a row

New York (April 13, 2021) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded BentallGreenOak (BGO) with the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award for the 11th consecutive year. “Partner of the Year” is the highest level of EPA recognition, demonstrating the company's long-term commitment to fighting climate change through energy efficiency. The honor builds on the company's 13-year record as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award winner and is a testament to BGO’s commitment to energy management and reducing its portfolio’s environmental footprint.

"This award reflects the firm-wide efforts required to achieve sustained and meaningful progress and it is through the focus and ingenuity of our people and partners that we are able to achieve outcomes that further reduce the environmental impact of our properties,” said Anna Murray, Managing Director, and the Global Head of ESG, BentallGreenOak. "Our consistent performance on sustainability in the built environment draws on years of experience and our North American assets are not only delivering results, but are becoming exemplars for how we make new and impactful advances in energy efficiency."

Since 2009, BGO has cut energy consumption by 476.8 million kilowatt hours across its portfolio, saving more than $50.7 million USD for its clients and tenants. The emissions reduction that the company has achieved to-date is equivalent to taking 72,834 passenger vehicles off the road for one year. BGO's momentum has continued to build over the years, with 78 properties achieving ENERGY STAR Certification in 2020, up from 36 properties in 2016, demonstrating energy performance in the top quartile compared to their regional peers.

“ENERGY STAR award-winning partners are showing the world that delivering real climate solutions makes good business sense and promotes job growth,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “Many of them have been doing it for years, inspiring all of us who are committed to tackling the climate crisis and leading the way to a clean energy economy.”
